TSE's 2012 Wedding Event

Lori and Jessica with Simply Divine Events worked alongside Sean De Freitas with Designs by Sean in co-producing the 2012 TSE Wedding Event!

We are so honored to have been chosen to be co-chairs for The Wedding Event for the Special Event Conference that was held in Tampa last week. The Special Event Conference is one of the largest trade shows and conferences in the Event Planning Industry.

In this blog post we are going to take you behind the scenes to see the process of setting up an event of this magnitude. The event was held in the Expo Hall at the Florida State Fairgrounds, and it took us 4 long days and nights to install this event. This has been the most challenging event we have worked on; and we executed it flawlessly.

The Expo Hall is an 88,000 square foot space. We transformed and brought in this space creating walls to the size and look of an elegant ballroom for 700 guests.

Stephanie and Adam's Country Chic Wedding

Here is a look at some of the details from Stephanie and Adam's Country Chic Wedding Reception. The two married at Stephanie's grandfather's 5 acre property on the West Coast of Florida. It was a beautiful night in December 2011, the weather was perfect- warm and sunny during the day and cool comfortable weather in the evening. We did have the threat of rain earlier in the morning, but the clouds past and everything was perfect for them!!

Some of the details at their wedding reception include, old church pews as a lounge grouping around a fire, market lights strung over the dance floor and dining tables under the large oak trees on the property, a basket of blankets for guests to borrow as the night grew chilly, old french doors with moss hanging from them flanked by beautiful pots of wild flowers as an entrance into the reception. We had crystal chandeliers and mason jars hanging from the trees and old windows that we used as the bar menu.

No wedding is absolutely perfect. When we asked newlyweds and... the less newly wed to share their biggest wedding day woes with us, a few common threads started to emerge. Here's what we learned:

1. Get It On Film

So many brides told us they wished they’d sprung for a videographer, or given their wedding photographer more specific directions. Your wedding will be RIFE with special moments - make sure you capture as many as possible!

"My husband and I really regret not recording the speeches. They were so loving and beautiful, we were moved to tears again and again! It's one of the best memories I have of that day and I wish we had a better record of all the kind things our family and friends had to say. A few gave us their typed notes but most strayed and added in some great anecdotes. 2. Beauty Accidents Happen

Wind, rain, and acts of God can seriously undo your updo. When you’re contemplating your wedding hairstyle, consider the locale, temp, and time of year. ALSO - the week of/day of your wedding is not an awesome time to try exciting new beauty treatments for the first time.

"My biggest mistake? Thinking my hair would actually cooperate and not require 3.5 hours to do so, effectively ruining photo happy time." - Christen

"My wedding was on the beach. It was gorgeous but there were strong winds so my Kardashian curls turned to a frizzy, curl-less disaster AND my veil flew out. Luckily the ceremony was over when it happened.... But you can see my hair get progressively worse in the pix!" - Jessica

3. Budget Your Time

Three words, ladies. HAIR AND MAKEUP. Too many wedding timelines get derailed when brides don’t budget enough time for wedding prep. Don’t let the primping get the best of your special day!

"I honestly think the one and only thing I would change would be starting hair/make-up for the ladies earlier, so we could have done more bride+bridesmaids photos. That said, I love the few we did get, and that is the *ONLY* thing I would change!" - Sean

4. Don’t Succumb To Peer Pressure

So many brides felt their wedding suffered because they’d been duped into letting friends or friends of friends handle important wedding services. “Friendors” can be fab...but they can also be a big flop.

"I'd have written contracts for services provided. Just because they're your friends doesn't mean you don't need one. I'm still waiting for the dvd of our ceremony 13 mos later with no way of getting my money or the video footage." - Jennifer

Brilliant Branding: Event Designers Share Secrets of Best Branding

It takes a deft hand to handle a brand. Corporate event experts use many tools to share their client's message at events. But they caution against the impulse simply to plaster the brand all over the event.

“I think it is important that a brand be incorporated into an event in an organic way and not staged,” says Gary Levitt, vice president of Los Angeles-based Sequoia Productions. “Otherwise, it will feel like a ‘paid’ advertisement.”

Powerful branding can be as simple as a color choice, Levitt says. “There are instances, mostly with private events, where the ‘brand’ is simply a color palette or design that will be incorporated into the invite and be carried throughout the elements of the event,” he explains.

Sequoia created an elegant branded event for client Revlon with the “Revlon Ice Cream Bar and Lounge.” Custom ice creams — inspired by the latest Revlon spokeswomen and lip-gloss flavors — were served in cones topped with a branded chocolate medallion, “perfect for a late summer party,” Levitt says. “Cigarette” girls tray-passed Revlon's latest lipsticks in the lounge, which was branded with pillows and oversized photo backdrops.

“When guests walk into a branded space and want to hang out there all night, we acknowledge that as a job well done,” Levitt adds.

LIGHT ON LOGOS

Jodi Wolf recommends using a light touch with logos.

A common branding mistake is “overexposure and saturation” of the client logo, says the president of Chicago's Paulette Wolf Events & Entertainment. “Putting your logo on a wall is not branding. PWEE does not like to do themed events; we create environments instead, and oversaturating your logo is to branding the way a theme party is to creating an exciting event. It simply isn't the most effective, interesting way to do things.”

While tools such as gobos and banners will “always be a staple for events,” Wolf says, she suggests putting graphics in other places, such as on the aprons of catering staff or along the edges of lounge furniture. For one event, she and her team turned the client's product into decor — literally. “Recently for fixture-maker Grohe America, we used their colorful showerheads in our floral arrangements and food station decor,” she explains.

In a chic spin on branding, PWEE stressed the high-end designs of faucet-maker Brizo by commissioning fashion designers including Michael Kors and Tory Burch to create garments made from special fabric printed with subtle patterns of the faucets. “The one-of-a-kind collection was then presented across the country to industry and media audiences, and got national media attention,” Wolf says.

PUSH YOURSELF

Kristjan Gavin, CMP, president of San Ramon, Calif.-based In Good Company, urges event designers to push their imaginations when creating branded events.

For an event series for client Microsoft Ltd. at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference, held in July in Los Angeles, In Good Company started with a wide array of standard branding tools — step-and-repeats, banners and the like. But the event team did much more.

“Every vendor was asked to work from Microsoft Windows 7 platforms, and to make all technology visible,” Gavin explains. “This included our CGI 3D mapping — by Ernie Ernstrom from [San Francisco-based] DaVinci Fusion — done to the stage backdrop wall.” The 3D mapping “integrated pictures taken on-site and driven through a product using Microsoft ‘Deep Zoom’ technology,” Gavin adds.

With the thrust of the event the client's push toward “cloud-based” services, the event team developed a airline-themed “first-class in the cloud” brand, carried through the event series in everything from an inflatable “cloud” meeting space to Microsoft-branded wing pins.

Designers can do more if they “think of the brand experience at a subconscious level,” Gavin says, “such as integrating the client product in a new, innovative way.”

Toby and Meenu - Westin Harbor Island Wedding Reception

A few weeks ago we had the pleasure of coordinating Toby and Meenu's wedding weekend. While vacationing in Clearwater earlier in the year, Toby and Meenu stumbled upon Tampa and decided that it would be a great location for their Fall wedding, since they did not want the cold of New York or Chicago.

On Friday, Meenu's Mylangi ceremony was held at the Westin.

On Saturday, Toby and Meenu had a traditional Syriac Orthodox ceremony that was held at the St. Nicholas Greek Church in Tarpon Springs. Meenu wore a traditional wedding gown and the bridal party wore midnight blue and purple saris. For Meenu's entrance, "Just the way you are" (by Bruno Mars), was sung by one of their cousins and is a song that they both connected on when they met. At the end of the ceremony, Toby surprised Meenu with a send-off meant for the stars! A Lamborghini for the weekend! How fun!!!

After taking pictures at Craig Park in Tarpon Springs, everyone headed back to the Westin Harbour Island in Tampa for the reception. The room looked amazing!!! The centerpieces were actually one of Toby's favorite looks and Meenu's and with the talents of MMD Events, everything came together quite nicely.

A great time was had by all and I was sad that the night had to come to an end. I am truly going to miss them!

Earlier in the year, I was so excited to hear that Mike and Camille were going to tie the knot! I have know Camille and her family ever since I planned her sister's wedding a few years back (as well as her brother's). It has been so much fun getting to know the family and to share in such special occasions. It has been so much fun planning their wedding and all the details leading up to the big day!!! Camille chose a palette of taupe, ivory and purple, which happens to be one of my favorite color combinations. We kept the linens neutral and added the "pop" of color with flowers. One of Camille's favorite flowers is the orchid, which we used throughout. Everything turned out amazing and a great time was had by all! Fairy Berries - Create a Magical Evening Atmosphere for any outdoor event

Well, we found a great article in Brides Chicago . We understand it can be confusing, so here is a breakdown to explain each job title.

Hyatt Clearwater Beach Resort Wedding

This past summer we had the pleasure of planning Kerry and Colin's wedding at the Hyatt Clearwater Beach Resort and Spa.

Kerry and Colin had a destination wedding. The couple and their families came all the way from England. They had an intimate wedding on the Sky Terrace followed by an excellent dinner in the private room at SHOR Restaurant.

Choosing your wedding colors

The colors you choose for your wedding day set the tone for your entire event. Choose colors you love, but also consider the following:

Where is the wedding and reception? Choose colors that complement the setting. Consider the carpeting, drapery and decor, etc.
What mood do you want to create? Vibrant colors add drama, while soft colors evoke a more romantic atmosphere.
What time of year will you marry? The season may influence your color choice. Spring and summer colors tend to be lighter, while fall and winter colors are generally darker.

Brides-to-be...

Here is a great checklist to guide you when planning a wedding in your backyard.

Are you organized?  Get out a notebook and start collecting wedding ideas, vendors, dreams. It’s never too early to start planning.

Are you money smart?  Start with a budget that matches your dream. Be realistic. Research what your money can buy. A tent with electricity and a dance floor can run anywhere from $8,000-$15,000, and that’s not including food, drink and entertainment. Know what you want and what you can afford.

Is your dream defined?  How do you want your guests to feel? What words describe your dream wedding: a romantic intimate gathering at dusk? A fun party that goes on all night? A hip happening brunch? Let your vision and must-haves define your list, from food to format.

Who will coordinate all the arrivals and the set up?  Hire a wedding planner. They will be there to coordinate the entire wedding day.

Will your location really work?  Is the house or yard big enough? Have a good flow for all your guests? Have spots for various activities from signing the guest book to cutting the cake, walking down the aisle to hanging up coats? Is the yard level?

Is the location legal?  Is there a limit to how many people you can fit in the house? How many cars can park in the street? How much noise you can make at night? How much electricity can be sent into a tent? How many portable restrooms you can park on the lawn? Find out what your town requires and what permits and inspections are needed in advance.

Are you wired adequately?  You’d be surprised how much juice a portable kitchen or a band uses. Do you need generators?

Have you warned the neighbors?  If you don’t want complaints, either warn the neighbors and thank them with a little gift, or invite them to the wedding.  

Where will you put stuff?  If you need to move furniture out of your house for dancing or dining room, where will you put it?

Have you checked the calendar?  Make sure you know what other big events are going on in town the weekend of your wedding. The season’s big ball game or prom can affect traffic and the number of hotel rooms available for your out-of-town guests.

Sit or stand?  Do you want guests to sit during the ceremony or stand? Will you use the same chairs for the ceremony as for the sit-down dinner? If yes, who will move them from one spot to the other — and when? How many chairs total do you need to rent? Also: have you considered a lounge grouping? Some couples prefer to rent couches for an informal reception.

Dance on grass?  If you’ve ever tried it, you know it’s not a great idea. How big of a dance floor do you want to rent?

Do you have enough potties?  You need to consider having one bathroom for every 50 people.

Do you do windows?  Make it easy on yourself, hire cleaners for before and after the wedding.

Are you picture perfect?  Does the yard or home need a bit of sprucing up? It's fine to do some painting and landscaping but make sure it’s done well in advance of the wedding weekend.

Going buggy?  Depending upon the time of year, you may need to arm your guests with insect repellent or plan to have lots of citronella candles around.

Who will pick up the trash?  Arrange for extra garbage pickup.

S'mores Push-up Pops!!!

I am going camping in a few weeks with the family and there is nothing like eating S'mores around the evening campfire. As I was surfing the internet the other night for wedding ideas and inspiration, I came across this great recipe on one of my favorite blogs: Hostess with the Mostess. So if you don't want the fuss of making a campfire, here is a great alternative.

S'mores Push-up Pops... Need I say more? I cannot wait to try this at home. Yummy!!!

Ingredients:

Graham crackers 

Jet-Puffed Marshmallow Creme 

1/2 cup Butter (1 stick) 

Hershey’s Chocolate Bars 

Chocolate pudding 

Push Pop Containers 

Ziplock bags (2 small, 1 large)

Instructions: 

Crush graham crackers in a big ziplock bag. Melt butter in the microwave, then pour it into the graham cracker bag. Mix well. Take a spoonful of the graham and butter mixture and put it in the bottom of the push pop container.

Next, take the chocolate pudding and put it in a small ziplock bag. Seal the bag and cut on of the bottom corners off with a pair of scissors. Gently squeeze out the pudding into the push pop container to form the 2nd layer. Break off 1 square of a Hershely’s chocolate bar and place on top of the pudding layer. Using another small ziplock bag with the corner snipped off, squeeze a layer of marshmallow creme into the push pop. Top the marshmallows with one more layer of graham crackers, then seal the push pop container with its lid.

Repeat the above steps until you have the desired amount of push pops!

We just got back from the Wedding MBA conference that was held in Las Vegas, Nevada. We are now recharged and ready to begin another busy wedding season!

One of the speakers was Carley Roney, Co-Founder of The Knot. Her seminar was focused around the hottest wedding trends for 2012. Here is what we learned from Carley!

Wedding Trend #1. Black Tie is Back

Think vintage luxury cars, ornate venues, and one plus to having the bridal party in black.... the girl's dresses can be worn again. :)

Wedding Trend #2. White Palettes

All white bridal parties, white flowers and incorporate creams and champagne. Formal can still have personality! Don't be afraid to incorporate some fun twists into your wedding too!

Wedding Trend #3. The night doesn't end with the reception

After parties are going away, and weddings are going to start even later. Think a night ceremony, or for those outdoor weddings, a sunset ceremony. The reception will be the dinner, since the wedding will take place later. Then, the dancing will kick in! A plus to having a night ceremony, you won't have to pay for that after party.

Wedding Trend #4. Surprises are a MUST!

Here are a few ideas...

Set up a "bakery case" at the end of the evening. Instead of your typical dessert bar, why not set up a bakery for guests to select their breakfast items for the next morning? You can supply a box for breakfast to go!!

Another idea is the hot new trend of Food Trucks. This is sure to be a surprise at any wedding!

Carely also spoke about a bride who took some lessons from her DJ, and took over DJ'ing for a few songs. The guests were very surprised and loved it!

Think performances.... if you are having a tropical beach reception, why not hire a fire performer to entertain your guests during dinner?

Here is one of our favorite ideas for a vintage wedding...

Have guests type their messages on an old fashioned type writer.

We love the finger print tree but here is another great one from Bleudetoi on etsy.

We love the little note cards offering "Words of advise" to the bride and groom. It is a great keepsake and fun to read year after year!!! You can leave the cards blank and have the guests write in their well wishes or advise or another idea is to pick a few questions that guests have to answer, like: Where should we go on our anniversary? What is the perfect date night? Where do you see us in ten years?, etc....

Below is another great etsy find... Here is how it works: Celedon Home sends you little hearts and guests sign or write their messages on them. After the wedding you send them back and a piece of art is created. This is a great addition to any newlywed's home.

Here is a great DIY guest book that we found on Martha Stewart Weddings...

Each dinner table bears a blank book with a question on the cover (one per table), and each guest finds a pen and a ribbon, reading "Don't forget to sign the booklet," atop the napkin.

Cotton Candy Martini

Are you looking for a fun and unique signature drink for your wedding or special event?

Well, we found one for you, the cotton candy martini!

We saw this on David Tutera's My Fair Wedding TV Show and loved the idea. We haven't tried it yet, but it has such a great presentation.

Ingredients:

1 1/2 ounces vodka

1/2 ounce x-rated fusion liqueur

1 ounce cranberry juice

pink cotton candy

Directions:

1. Put the cotton candy in the martini glass

2. Put the rest of the ingredients in a shaker and shake well

3. Pour the cocktail over the cotton candy. It dissolves instantly, so present the glass before pouring.

I was on facebook the other day, when my brother-in-law brought to my attention, a company his former coworker started. It is called Monkey Bear Books. The company was created by am mom and author who didn't have the time to organize the many photos of her kids. Redesigning the Dress

Last month we had the pleasure of coordinating Jenny and Josh's vintage inspired wedding and dessert reception. Jenny wore her mother's wedding gown from the 1970's and had it redesigned to fit her style now.

Here is a photo of her mom and dad at their wedding in 1974.

In the picture below Jenny is wearing her mom's gown. This photo was taken at one of her first meetings with her wedding gown designer Vicky Anglo with Anglo Couture.

The dress is almost complete! This shows where one of the sleeves has been removed and the high neckline was redesigned into a beautiful v-shape.

And, here is Jenny on her wedding day, looking beautiful as ever in her redesigned vintage wedding gown!

A lot of times our brides are looking for something special to add to their bouquet. Here are some of Simply Divine's favorites: A locket with a picture of your husband-to-be and you is a sweet touch! Or a locket with a picture of someone who has passed away, is a great way to pay tribute to them.

Another idea is to adorn your stems with a good luck charm. Your something old: antique brooch. Charms with your monogram and wedding date. Or, if you want to tie in your theme, such as adorning your bouquet with starfish or shells for a beach wedding.

We have even had brides wrap their bouquet with the lace or fabric from their mother's wedding gown. Adding your own special touch is a great way to dress-up any bouquet!

Jenny & Josh's Dessert Reception

This past weekend we had the pleasure of planning Jenny and Josh's wedding. They have a great story!

The couple met in middle school and were high school sweethearts. I actually went to high school with both Jenny and Josh!

After high school they went off to college and went their separate ways. More than ten years later, they found each other again. They were living on opposite coasts, but not even that could keep them away from each other!

Jenny and Josh married at the historic Don Vincente Inn in Ybor City. They had a unique theme to their wedding, and it suited them perfectly. They decided to have a cocktail type reception, actually an all dessert reception. Guests mixed, mingled and danced throughout the night. The centerpieces were really cute, they were black magic roses filled inside different size cigar boxes. The theme of the wedding and reception was vintage and we played off things that symbolized Ybor City.

Jenny actually wore her mother's wedding gown. She had it re-designed and she looked absolutely beautiful in it.

Their guest book was a coffee table book about the history of Ybor City. Guests signed around the pictures and words. Many gave advice, shared a story, or memory they have with the couple.

Her favors were chocolate cigars to go along with the theme, which was of course, dessert and historic Ybor. Guests also received a mixed CD of the couple's favorite songs, and actual cigars!

After the reception, everyone was invited downstairs into the basement at the Don Vincente Inn for an after party where pizza and even more drinks were served!

Congrats once again to the lovely couple!

The Royal's Evening Attire

We absolutely love Kate's second wedding gown!!!

After the ceremony, she slipped into another dress designed by McQueen creative director Sarah Burton. It was a white satin strapless evening gown with a circle skirt and gorgeous detail work around the waist. She finished the look with a simple white shrug.

The Duke of Cambridge also made a quick change. William changed into a more comfortable black tuxedo.

Camilla Parker Bowles and Kate's sister, Pippa, stepped out in colorful new outfits, too.

While Pippa, who served as maid of honor, also wore a dress by Alexander McQueen director Sarah Burton to the ceremony, she chose designer Alice Temperley to make a custom look for the evening's festivities. Pippa wore an emerald green Temperley London gown to the dinner dance hosted by Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace.

I am sure everyone tuned in to see the big royal wedding today. I do have to say that I loved Kate's choice of wedding gowns!!! As soon as I saw it, I knew her inspiration came from Grace Kelly's gown. The updated design really really complimented Kate's figure and personality. I could not resist! I wanted to know more behind Kate's look. So here are a few more details that I found surfing the web today.

Let’s start with the dress…..The gorgeous Alexander McQueen gown was designed by Creative Director Sarah Burton. It had elegant lace sleeves. The lace appliqué was hand-made by the Royal School of Needlework using the Carrickmacross lace-making technique, which served as her "something old." Hand-cut English lace and French Chantilly lace adorned the ivory silk gazar skirt, which flowed out from the fitted corset. For the finishing touches, 58 covered buttons fastened the gown in the back – and a bit of blue ribbon constituted the bride's "something blue." Since Kate is a simple but elegant girl, her train was a modest length of eight feet, pretty short compared to other royal gowns.

For the headpiece, again Kate stuck with something simple. The veil was made of ivory silk tulle and had embroidered trim also done by the Royal School of Needlework. As far as the tiara goes, this was Catherine's "something borrowed" was a Cartier 'halo' tiara loaned to her by Queen Elizabeth II. It was originally a gift from the Queen's father, King George VI, to the Queen Mother, and it was given to the Queen on her 18th birthday.

For her "something new," Catherine wore a pair of diamond earrings created for her by jeweler Robinson Pelham. Designed to complement the tiara, as well as to reference the Middleton family's new coat of arms, the earrings were comprised of an oak leaf stud and diamond drops, which encompassed a tiny diamond acorn.

As far as the hair and make-up goes, I am really glad that she chose the half-updo. I think if she wore it all up, it would have looked to stuffy. Also, I was really surprised to hear that she did her own make-up! Brave Girl!!!

The only thing, Lori and I thought needed a little help was her bouquet. It was a little small and did not compliment the dress at all. However, I really did like the symbolic meaning behind it. The bouquet was designed by Shane Connolly. In addition to the flower sweet William, the bouquet included lily-of-the-valley (for return of happiness), hyacinth (constancy of love) and ivy (for fidelity, marriage and affection). Also key to the arrangement were stems from plants grown from sprigs of the bridal bouquets of Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth.

In all, it was really great to watch this event and bring out the princess in us!

Here is another great product that we saw at the BizBash Florida Expo. The PhotoMingle is a one-of-a-kind touchscreen technology housed in a 55" monitor on a stand that everyone can see and interact with. The touchscreen allows guests to take their own photos and write messages – all with the power of their fingertips. In addition to taking photos, guests can also leave video messages and look at pre-uploaded photos chosen by the client. You can even immediately upload to your facebook account and tag your guests in the photos. This is great for any type of event, from weddings to even corporate functions! The company is based out of Orlando, but will travel to the Tampa Bay Area for a small fee. It is definitely something I would like to see at an upcoming event!

BizBash Expo: Spotlight on Bar Lab Cocktail Cocktail Catering

As we were walking around the trade show floor we came across this great set-up. It was a couple of guys that looked like they were straight out of the Speakeasy Era. Their bar catering service was a great concept and would be an awesome addition to a vintage inspired wedding or event. For the set-up they use a lot of antique bar fronts and have lots of props to go along with the theme, such as old bottles, glassware and even the bartenders themselves get into character.

They specialize in classic cocktails using only fresh squeezed juices, purees, hand crafted syrups and bitters. If you are looking for something fun for your next event, check out Bar Lab Cocktail Catering. They are based out of South Florida, but the good thing is that they travel!

BizBash Florida Expo: Spotlight on Silent Party USA

Last week, we attended the Biz Bash Florida Expo and came across some great new concepts. Over the next week or so, we will be featuring some of our great finds.

The First one up is Silent Party USA. We were curious to see what this was all about and got to chat with the innovator: Jason Gabel, who gladly filled us in.

At a Silent Party, everyone is given his or her own headphones which allows each person to have complete control over their own listening experience. As far as the music being played, the possibilities are endless. With the flick of a switch on the headphones, listeners can toggle between two separate streams of audio being transferred via the UHF radio frequency technology. One channel could be a DJ and the other could be an I-Pod. Or, two DJ's can play simultaneously, each playing a different style of music. Our headphones can receive sound up to 300 feet and also come equipped with a personal volume control and a mute button.

And unless you have these headphones on, the only thing you'll be hearing is silence!

Tired of the music? Slip off your headphones and take a walk with a new friend. When the conversation gets boring, no need to devise an escape plan, just slide the headphones back on and join the party!

Silent Party can be used for something more professional than a dance party. It is great for conventions, conferences, and public speeches. Drive your business's objective home via a presentation in an intimate silent conference setting.

We Won Best Nonprofit Event Concept for the BizBash Event Style Awards

BizBash Event Style Awards honor the very best in event creativity, in categories ranging from best nonprofit event concept to best new venue.

The awards bring the industry together to celebrate their own, while at the same time earning industry acknowledgment as a category winner.

Here is a brief write-up describing the award winning event.

To inspire guests to take a proactive approach to improving their health, the Tampa Bay Heart Ball began with a high-energy dance production involving association staff and volunteers to the tune of the Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling.” Throughout the night, live acts and videos demonstrated activities such as jumping rope, hula hooping, and acrobatics, while statistics about exercise and heart health flashed on screens around the room.

Why not turn it into a photo shoot featuring your favorite sports team!!! Recently we had two of our couples sport their team colors for their engagement session. Camille and Mike are Yankee Fans and were able to take some pictures in their Yankee Gear at Steinbrenner Field. Our other couple, Nick and Jackie are huge Buccaneer fans and so they opted for a photo op at Raymond James Stadium and One Buc Place.

Tampa Bay Heart Ball 2011

Here is a little teaser of the opening act performed by Event Show Productions from this year's Tampa Bay Heart Ball! This was shot from our Flip camera. As we receive more photos and videos we will be sure to post!

For the third year in a row, we have had the pleasure of being the event planners for the Tampa Bay Heart Ball. This year's theme was "A Passion for Life"- New Beginnings. Our opening act featured an aerial hammock act- where a performer came out of a cocoon- similar to a butterfly. Many other small details around the room showed 'new beginnings' such as butterflies hanging from the ceiling and spring flowers in the centerpieces. Corina, with A La Carte Event Pavilion, designed and decorated the ballroom perfectly, with shades of lavender and white!

I was surfing the net the other night and came across this tasty treat. Cupcakes in a jar, who would have thought! They've been seen on The Today Show and in O Magazine. So what exactly is new food trend? Cupcakes in a jar, it turns out, are like the illicit love child of cake pops and those jarred cake mixes .

When reading the title of the article featured on www.thekitchn.com, I immediately assumed that it meant little baked cakes in jars. But cupcakes in a jar go way past that. After reading the article and doing a little research myself, some aren't even baked in the jar; they're made of a halved cupcake, or crumbled cake, layered in a jar with whipped buttercream frosting. After the lid is put on, the high sugar content of these treats means they can last for over a week, or be frozen. This tasty treat would make a great take home treat for guests!

Cathy and Juan had a beautiful fall wedding at Palma Ceia United Methodist followed by the reception at the Marriott Waterside. Cathy's vision was an enchanted forest, so with it being Fall, we incorporated: chocolate, copper and taupe into the color palette. For decor we kept it simple because Cathy didn't want a lot of fabric, so we kept we really played up the lighting and just had a few fabric vignettes. Sharon over at the Potting Shed came up with 2 centerpieces for the tables: One, a grand topiary and the second one being a grapevine wreath adorned with berries mosses, orchids, mango callas and roses. For the cake, we wanted to feel like it was alive and part of this so called enchanted forest. Along with Kim from Chocolate Pi we came up with the design that really complimented the decor. Early on, I learned that Cathy's mom and brother passed away from heart disease, so we wanted to come up with something to recognize their spirit. In searching for invitations, Cathy found one at Cranes that had a vine heart on them, so we used this throughout on the favors, menus, programs and place cards. Emma's Bat Mitzvah

Last weekend we had the pleasure of working with this family for a second time. A few years ago we planned Jenna's Bat Mitzvah, this time we worked with Emma...and what a great young lady she is!

Emma's theme was TV- she loves watching television! All the tables were named after her favorite TV Shows, Spongebob, Glee, Wipeout, to name a few. The entire theme was built around "EmTV" playing off of the television channel MTV and her name Emma!

She chose the color of lemon yellow and silver- what a great color combination. The ballroom overlooked the river and had many windows, so this color really worked well with the room, it was so bright and airy- perfect for an afternoon celebration!

Many thanks to all the vendors involved who made this party such fun atmosphere for Emma and her family and friends.

Daniele's Bat Mitzvah

This past weekend we had the pleasure of planning Daniele's Bat Mitzvah. This was our 2nd time working with the family. We planned Daniele's brother's Bar Mitzvah two years ago. Daniele's theme was GEMS. She wanted a colorful fun party and that is what she got! We named all the guest tables after her favorite gem stones and Daniele's table was the DIAMOND table.

We had lots of things to keep the guests entertained. Allen with Classic Entertainment provided the music for the evening and he brought along two of his dancers- which were great! David Wright Photography provided the Green Screen Photo Booth, Christy Beam provided an Airbrush Temporary Tattoo station, Rick Weil from Balloon Productions created his always fabulous balloon art.

There were also lots of yummy treats! We brought in Cafe A La Carte who provided coffee, hot chocolate, lattes, cappuccino and espresso. The Marriott also had a virgin daiquiri bar for the kids and rented a cotton candy machine and had an ice cream bar. Last of the treats, we created a candy bar for Daniele- full of color - the centerpiece of the table was a three tier tray of BeDazzle My Bon Bons. It was a big hit!

One of our brides, Nicole, recently stumbled upon this great company that customizes wedding card boxes from For the Modern Bride. Above is the one she had customized for her wedding back in November. Each card box is hand crafted specific to the colors and theme of your wedding. You can personalize it with your names and wedding date and even add a Swarovski topper, if you want. They have even launched a couture line in which Stella, the founder, will create a masterpiece for you. It makes a great addition to any event be a wedding, bat mitzvah or even an anniversary party. After the big day, it is a great keepsake to store your wedding cards and other memories.
